Which policies does your business need?
At a minimum, most businesses need: a disciplinary and grievance procedure, a health and safety policy (required by law if you have five or more employees), a whistleblowing policy, a GDPR and data protection policy, and a bullying and harassment policy.
As your team grows, you will need more: a flexible working policy, a sickness absence policy, a family friendly policy covering maternity, paternity, adoption, and shared parental leave, a data breach response policy, and policies covering social media, IT use, and working from home.
Bespoke policies, not templates
We do not hand you a bundle of standard documents and leave you to adapt them. We work with you to build the right set of policies for your business, at the stage it is at right now. A ten-person construction business has different needs to a fifteen-person professional services firm.
All policies are stored on your dedicated SharePoint so they are always accessible to you and your managers. When employment law changes, we update your policies ahead of the implementation date. Guides and summaries come with every update so you understand what has changed and why.
Policies as a management tool
A good set of policies does more than protect you from claims. It gives your managers a clear framework to work within. When a difficult situation arises, they can refer to the policy rather than having to make it up as they go along. That consistency matters, both for the outcome of the situation and for the culture of your business.
What are employment policies?
Employment policies are written statements that set out how your business handles specific situations: how you manage absence, what happens when a grievance is raised, what your expectations are around conduct, how you handle data, and what your position is on bullying and harassment.
Some policies are legally required. Others are not, but having them in place protects you and your team when a situation arises that nobody expected. Without a written policy, it becomes very difficult to apply a consistent process, and inconsistency is one of the most common reasons tribunal claims succeed.
